Automotive Radar Compliance Testing Using A CATR (Compact Antenna Test Range) Chamber
Automotive radar technology has become increasingly prevalent in modern vehicles, playing a crucial role in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving applications. Ensuring the reliability and accuracy of these radar sensors is essential for safe and efficient operation on the road. Consequently, advanced testing methodologies are required to evaluate the performance and functionality of these sensors.
This webinar provides an overview of one such advanced test methodology- Automotive Radar testing using the CATR (Compact Antenna Test Range) chamber. It outlines the objectives, challenges, and key considerations to achieve accurate and comprehensive results.
The primary objectives of automotive radar testing using the CATR chamber include calibrating and verifying the radar's ability to detect and track objects, estimating their range, velocity, and angle across the field-of-view (FOV), the measurement of key performance indicators such as detection probability; false alarm rate; and range, doppler & angle accuracy. It also includes evaluating the radar's robustness against environmental factors (like temperature and humidity) and interference. Furthermore, the need for precise and repeatable measurements, and the evolving regulatory standards, require the test procedures to be standardized and aligned with industry regulations (FCC) to ensure consistent and comparable results across different radar manufacturers. To achieve this, the CATR test setup can be used for accurate power level measurements like EIRP, frequency measurements and transient analysis for signal/spectral analysis of the radar chirps.
