The IEEE International Symposium on EMC+SIPI is coming to Grand Rapids, and we’ve got you covered.

For more than 50 years, the IEEE EMC Society has played a crucial role in advancing engineering technology. Throughout its long history of innovations in Electromagnetic Compatibility and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects, the Society has emphasized the importance of proper performance for energy, electrical, communications, information technology, and wireless systems.

The Society promotes information sharing through regional chapters and international symposia such as the annual IEEE International Symposium on EMC+SIPI being held in Grand Rapids, MI from July 31 to August 4, 2023. The symposium will feature technical sessions, interactive workshops/tutorials, standards sessions, experiments and demonstrations, a technical exhibition, and social events that provide valuable opportunities to network and continue on the successes from our previous annual symposia.

EMC Society President Vignesh Rajamani wrote in IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Magazine, “I had the privilege of meeting with the local organizing committee in early March and did a walkthrough of the DeVos Place Convention Center. The convention center layout is fantastic; we will be able to hold all the technical and social events along with the exhibits, each in their areas but still close together so that the participants will be able to hop from one to the other very easily.

“Grand Rapids as a city has a huge variety of things to see and do starting with the world-renowned art museums and historic sites for cultural vacationers, plus world-class golf, recreation, and beaches for nature lovers. You will find incredible farm-to-table restaurants for foodies and wholesome ‘playcation’ fun for families.”

Who, What, Where, When, And Why

This year’s EMC+SIPS Symposium features technical sessions, interactive workshops/tutorials, standards sessions, experiments and demonstrations, and a dynamic technical exhibition area, as well as social events to enjoy (that also can provide valuable opportunities to network).

During the registration process, attendees will have an opportunity to sign up for two uniquely different technical tours. One will include a visit to Intertek Labs, a 3rd party accredited EMC test lab while the other will invite folks into Grand Valley State University’s Innovation & Design Center where they will learn about their engineering program, see the senior design projects on display, and tour the EMC Center which is operated by E3 Compliance – an EMC & SIPI engineering consulting group.

The Clayton R. Paul Global University (CRPGU) course will again be offered and provides an opportunity for intensive study by an accomplished group of international instructors allowing you to accelerate your understanding of EMC and SIPI. The topics for this year’s Global University are those that have been proven to be valuable to participants in previous symposia and will truly be an event that honors Dr. Paul’s efforts and dedication to the EMC Society as well as maintains his high standards in providing EMC educational opportunities.

There also will be a SIPI Short Course on the fundamentals of SIPI which is planned to take place early in the week to allow the course attendees to build upon their newly acquired knowledge over the following days., as well as Special Sessions that include Advance Modeling, EMC Assessment, and Stochastic Simulation. In addition, there will be Ask the Expert Panels on Power Electronic, Automotive, Electrification, Medical Devices, and SI Challenges of SERDES.

“West Michigan is experiencing a growth of technology companies, whether through expansion of existing companies or by innovative ‘startups,’” notes Mark Steffka, EMC+SIPI 2023 General Chair. “Having the EMC+SIPI 2023 in Grand Rapids puts it right in the ‘hub’ of that growth, as well as being within only a few hours’ drive from automotive companies and suppliers of the advanced technology that is exponentially growing in today’s automotive systems.

“In addition to the automotive industry, the event will have a wide focus on a variety of industries like healthcare and aerospace and product and services in testing, measurement, and software. We are looking forward to welcoming you to this enriching event that will allow you to renew relationships with existing customers, attract new customers, and gain exposure for your products and services to industry leaders. We are confident that you will find this experience very rewarding and memorable.”

Registration for the event is open to IEEE EMC-S members in good standing who are paid in full for 2023. Those who are not members but would like to join IEEE can and will qualify for conference member rates in the process. Members of IEEE EMC-S Sister Societies are eligible for the discounted IEEE EMC-S member rate at the annual symposium by contacting the Registration Service to obtain this discount. Students enrolled in a full-time course of study at a college or university can register in any of the student categories.
