Welcome Back To EuMW — Again!
By Abby Proch, former editor
Back for the second time this year, European Microwave Week (this time, in Milan) is welcoming microwave and RF engineers, scientists, and others for another six days of conferences, forums, and exhibition. This iteration of the annual event celebrates 25 years since the European Microwave Association (EuMA) first introduced “Microwave Week” in 1988. In April, EuMA held EuMW 2021 in London after being postponed throughout 2021 by the coronavirus pandemic.
“We learned in London during EuMW2021 what we missed during the pandemic; I am looking forward to seeing you in Milan to continue being together again. EuMA stands up for our microwave and RF community,” said EuMA President Frank Van Den Bogaart in his conference welcome message. “We foster networking between scientists, engineers, decision makers and end-users. The European Microwave Week (EuMW) is our main asset and a real networking event. It’s the place to get information you can’t get anywhere else and to meet colleagues you don’t see every day.”
Over the years, EuMW has grown to run concurrently with the European Microwave Conference (EuMC), the European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference (EuMIC), and the European Radar Conference (EuRAD). In addition to traditional programming, the EuMW also offers special events and forums covering topics in defense, security, and space; the transition from 5G to 6G; and automotive.
The EuMW conference program includes notable forums like the “Women in Microwave Engineering”— open to men and women, of course — at which three female speakers will discuss wearable devices, with a focus on trends in materials and fabrication techniques. The automotive forum follows with a discussion on automotive radar imaging progress; interference challenges, tests, and solutions; and emerging trends. The forum for defense, security, and space will focus on the advancement of electronic defense systems to address the increasingly crowded electromagnetic spectrum and the rising ubiquity of both unintentional and malicious interference. The forum features a round table discussion with representative from Analog Devices, Leonardo SpA, Elettronica SpA, and CY4GATE, among others. And the final forum on the transition from 5G to 6G will feature deep dive discussions into the use of mmWave and sub-terahertz bands and include a panel discussion.
Housed at the Milano Convention Center — newly renamed the Allianz MiCo — the EuMW exhibition floor is Europe’s largest for RF and microwave, with just shy of 200 vendors from the U.S., Europe, and around the world. Expect to booths from the likes of Rohde & Schwarz, Rosenberger, Keysight Technologies, Schott AG, Anritsu EMEA, Cadence Design Systems, and more.
EuMW 2022 runs Sept. 25-30, with the exhibition floor open Sept. 27-29.
