The Road To 5G Is Paved With Fiber
By The Fiber Broadband Association
By Fiber Broadband Association
5G, or the next generation of mobile networks, is expected to provide gigabit speeds, ultra-high capacity, and ultra-low latency. 5G will use a wide range of spectrum and will require the use of a number of small 5G radios, or “cells,” and those small cells will need a substantial amount of fiber. The most demanding 5G applications will require fiber for each small cell, but the exact fiber cable requirements for each deployment will differ based on local geography and expected demand. This white paper will discuss the important uses of fiber in 5G technologies, and provide insight on how to calculate the amount of fiber needed for 5G in metropolitan areas. Download the full paper for more information, and a case study on the use of fiber in 5G rollouts.
